Reese Witherspoon to buy back Hello Sunshine

Reese Witherspoon is partnering with French production group Mediawan to buy back her Los Angeles-based media company, Hello Sunshine. The reported purchase price is in the low-to-mid eight figures, which is significantly lower than the valuation established when Candle Media acquired a controlling stake in 2021.

Hello Sunshine, founded by Witherspoon in 2016, focuses on stories centered on women and has produced projects such as ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘The Morning Show’. The company also operates Reese’s Book Club, which reaches approximately 6.2 million readers.

The transaction reflects a shift in the entertainment industry. During the streaming boom, companies like Candle Media, backed by Blackstone, aggressively acquired production companies at high valuations. However, as the market has shifted toward a focus on profitability and disciplined content spending, many previous valuations have faced downward pressure.
