Ekstraklasa faces refereeing controversy following disputed match decisions
The Polish Ekstraklasa is facing a wave of controversy following a series of disputed refereeing decisions during the 10th round of matches. A primary focus is the match between Jagiellonia Białystok and Górnik Zabrze, where Górnik secured a 3-1 victory. Jagiellonia has officially petitioned the Polish Football Association (PZPN) for explanations regarding several incidents, including a disallowed goal by Jesús Imaz and a non-awarded penalty. Referee Wojciech Myć later addressed these decisions in a media appearance, admitting he might have handled certain situations differently, specifically noting a potential foul on Imaz that he would have preferred to review via VAR.
Other matches also drew scrutiny. In a clash between Legia Warszawa and Wisła Kraków, referee Damian Sylwestrzak faced criticism over a goal resulting from an incorrect throw-in. Additionally, Tomasz Marciniak faced backlash regarding a controversial penalty decision in a match involving Cracovia and Zagłębie Lubin, an error he reportedly acknowledged to the club.
Marcin Szulc, Chairman of the PZPN Refereeing College, commented on the situation, stating that while there were several controversial and incorrectly resolved incidents, the round also contained well-handled decisions. He noted that the interpretation of such events often depends on the criteria used by various experts.
