Reflections on love and longing through literature and poetry
Various literary and philosophical works offer perspectives on the complexities of love and longing. Collections of quotes from poets, philosophers, and religious texts explore themes of affection, separation, and the enduring nature of true feelings.
Notable contributors include Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who spoke on looking in the same direction together, and Mahatma Gandhi, who noted that where there is love, there is life. Religious texts, such as the Bible, provide foundational views on the selfless nature of love.
In Polish literature, poet Agnieszka Osiecka provided personal reflections on the fluctuating nature of romance. In correspondence with Jeremi Przybora between 1964 and 1966, published in ‘Listy na wyczerpanym papierze’, Osiecka described loving ‘with breaks’. She observed that emotions are not constant, noting that while love can sometimes be overwhelming, there are also periods where one can focus on daily life without intense preoccupation.
