Reforged Labs AI Startup Closes as Market Gap Shrinks

Reforged Labs, an AI‑powered video ad creation platform for mobile game studios, announced it is winding down after three years of operation. Co‑founder and CEO Robert Huynh said the company’s biggest customers signed six‑figure contracts, but “there aren't many studios at that scale,” and rapid advances in generative AI have let those studios build similar tools in‑house. The startup raised $3.9 million in a seed round in 2024 led by DCM Ventures, with participation from Y Combinator and other investors, and operated a team of 17 employees across the United States and Vietnam. Attempts to expand beyond the gaming sector failed to gain traction, and Huynh concluded, “The gap we were selling into is closing,” preferring to end the business clearly rather than shrink it slowly.

Clients had included major publishers such as Supercell, King, Ubisoft, Playtika and Scopely. The closure reflects broader shifts in the AI advertising market as large language models become increasingly capable, reducing the value proposition for specialized third‑party providers.
