Reform Party proposes joint action with People Power Party to block Chief Justice impeachment

The Reform Party has proposed a joint political action with the People Power Party to prevent the potential impeachment of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae. Lee Ki-in, the Reform Party's emergency response committee chairman, stated that if the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party formally introduce impeachment motions, the Reform Party will join forces with the main opposition to protect judicial independence and the constitutional order.

Lee criticized the current political climate, suggesting that the ruling powers are attempting to use their legislative majority to suppress opposition rather than engaging in compromise. He warned that an impeachment would suspend the Chief Justice's duties before a final Constitutional Court ruling, potentially causing significant disruptions to the Supreme Court's operations, including plenary sessions and the appointment of new justices.

To counter the move, Lee proposed various methods of resistance, including a nationwide signature campaign and, if necessary, more intense forms of protest. He emphasized that the resulting judicial vacuum would ultimately harm citizens waiting for legal rulings.
