Reform UK conference faces protests and donation scandal
The Reform UK annual conference in Birmingham was marked by significant disruptions, security concerns, and allegations of violence. Protesters from groups including Climate Resistance and Greenpeace interrupted keynote speeches by leader Nigel Farage and deputy leader Richard Tice. During these disruptions, a Greenpeace banner was unfurled, and activists heckled speakers regarding the party's funding and climate policies.
Reports and video footage emerged showing a female protester being physically assaulted by conference attendees, including being grabbed by the hair and hit with a walking stick. While West Midlands Police have appealed for the woman to come forward to facilitate an investigation, they noted that no formal complaint had been filed at the time of reporting. Reform UK politicians, including Robert Jenrick and Nigel Farage, largely dismissed the incidents, with Jenrick telling the protester to ‘get a life’ and Farage describing the disruptions as ‘boring’.
The conference was also overshadowed by an undercover investigation alleging that senior party figures discussed schemes to funnel foreign donations to the party, a matter that has been reported to the police. Nigel Farage addressed these concerns by stating he was not listening during the recorded conversations and admitted the party might ‘make mistakes’ regarding donation laws.
