The Metropolitan Police have launched a criminal investigation into Reform UK following allegations of breaching electoral laws regarding foreign donations. The probe was triggered by an undercover investigation by Channel 4 News and the group Verbatim, which captured senior party officials discussing methods to bypass UK laws that prohibit political donations from non-UK citizens or businesses.

In the footage, party figures appeared to discuss channeling funds from an American financier through a UK-based relative, as well as having foreign donors pay for political opinion polling. The investigation is being integrated into an existing inquiry by the Met’s Special Enquiry Team into other donations made to the party.

Following the broadcast, Reform UK suspended two senior figures: policy chief James Orr and long-time adviser to Nigel Farage, Dan Jukes. The party denies any wrongdoing, with Farage describing the recorded comments as “loose pub talk” and suggesting the party was targeted by a hoax. Reform UK has stated it will fully cooperate with the authorities.
