Reform UK faces crisis over undercover footage of racist and violent remarks

An undercover investigation by ITV, titled ‘Undercover: A Year in Reform’, has exposed several Reform UK members, candidates, and councillors making racist, sexist, and violent remarks. The footage has led to multiple suspensions and resignations within the party.

Aspiring MP Jason Powell was suspended after being recorded stating that ‘you cannot be a Muslim and British’ and suggesting that asylum seekers crossing the Channel should be placed in ‘concentration camps’. Additionally, Reform councillor Alan Feeney resigned after privately describing an area as ‘infested’ with Asian families and calling them ‘parasites’.

Other controversial clips include Councillor Adam Parkins suggesting he would perform ‘Sunday morning Rose Garden executions’ of those involved in grooming gangs, and Councillor David Kerr advocating for the mass shooting of similar individuals. The investigation also features Reform MP Sarah Pochin describing the party as ‘chauvinistic’ and exclusionary toward women.

In response, Reform UK stated there is ‘no room for racism’ in the party and has opened investigations into members who behaved inappropriately. The party has also stated it is pursuing legal action against ITV regarding the use of undercover reporting.
