Reform UK faces scrutiny following undercover ITV documentary

An undercover investigation by ITV, titled ‘Undercover: A Year in Reform’, has revealed recordings of Reform UK councillors and candidates making racist, Islamophobic, misogynistic, and violent remarks. The documentary, which involved a reporter working within the party headquarters, has led to several resignations and suspensions within the organization.

Among those affected was aspiring parliamentary candidate Jason Powell, who was suspended after recordings surfaced of him advocating for concentration camps for migrants and stating that Muslims cannot be British. Other individuals featured in the footage have either resigned or remain in their positions.

Reform UK has stated it has improved its vetting procedures since the 2024 general election, maintaining there is ‘no room for racism’ in its ranks. Nigel Farage has responded by suggesting that political parties cannot be expected to vet every future statement made by members. While the revelations have raised questions regarding organizational responsibility, some commentators argue the footage highlights the actions of a small number of individuals within a much larger membership.
