Reform UK faces scrutiny over undercover footage of racist and sexist remarks

Reform UK is facing intense scrutiny following an ITV News undercover investigation titled ‘Undercover: A Year in Reform’. The documentary features footage of party councillors and candidates using racist, sexist, and violent language. Specific incidents include a councillor in Solihull describing Asian families as ‘absolute parasites’ and ‘infested’, and another individual referring to Black children as ‘animals’.

One councillor, Raymond Dunning of Tameside, reportedly resigned following the emergence of footage in which he discussed deporting migrants and using insurgency tactics. The investigation also raised questions regarding the party’s candidate vetting processes. In one instance, a local chairman was recorded advising an undercover reporter to delete social media posts supporting far-right activist Tommy Robinson to avoid political damage.

Nigel Farage has defended the party, claiming he has worked to stand against the far right and that the party has improved its vetting procedures. However, senior officials were reportedly recorded suggesting Farage had overruled efforts to expel a racist candidate. Reform UK has stated there is ‘no room for racism’ within the party and has commenced internal investigations into the conduct of several members.
