Reform UK moves to cut public funding for gender, queer and race theory university courses

Reform UK, a right‑wing British party, announced that it will no longer provide student loans or public subsidies for degree programmes it labels as “woke”, including Gender Studies, Queer Theory and Critical Race Theory. Party education spokesperson Suella Braverman said these subjects have poor outcomes and low value, and that students wishing to study them must pay privately. The policy is part of a broader push to reduce university debt, focus on technical education and withdraw funding from institutions that do not protect free speech or combat antisemitism. A recent poll showed Reform UK overtaking Labour in voting intention for the first time in over a year. The move mirrors similar cuts to diversity programmes in U.S. universities during the Trump administration.
