Reform UK MP Laura Anne Jones calls for Blaenavon wildfire recovery plan

Reform UK MP Laura Anne Jones visited the Blaenavon Common wildfire site, where peat continues to smoulder beneath the surface. She praised local common‑land farmers and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for protecting livestock, homes and the landscape, and warned that the Welsh Government must now provide urgent support to restore the World Heritage Site and mitigate long‑term flood and erosion risks.

Jones highlighted the lack of fire breaks, fire ponds and effective land‑management, calling for a Wales‑wide strategy to prevent future upland fires. She noted the fire’s large carbon release and urged the government to fund recovery of the peatland, grazing areas and drainage systems.
