Reform UK MPs granted 24-hour security

All eight Reform UK Members of Parliament have been granted 24-hour security following the death of former minister Ann Widdecombe, who was killed at her home in July.

Sarah Pochin, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, noted that while the increased protection is appreciated, it has become highly intrusive to personal and family life. Pochin described the impact on her family, stating her adult children have urged her to leave politics due to safety concerns. She also highlighted the difficulty of performing routine tasks, such as shopping, while under constant guard.

This security escalation follows previous concerns raised by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage regarding reduced protection for high-profile figures. Pochin, who entered Parliament via a by-election in 2025, is the party's first female MP.
