Reform UK overtakes Conservatives in London mayoral polling

A new Savanta poll conducted for the Mile End Institute at Queen Mary University of London indicates a significant shift in the political landscape for the 2028 London mayoral race. The survey shows the Labour Party leading with 33 per cent, while Reform UK has overtaken the Conservatives to become the primary challenger in second place with 20 per cent. The Conservatives currently trail in third with 18 per cent.

Other parties recorded in the poll include the Green Party at 14 per cent and the Liberal Democrats at 10 per cent. Under London’s supplementary vote system, the results suggest that Reform UK candidate Laila Cunningham could potentially face the Labour candidate in a final run-off.

Dr. Eoghan Kelly, a researcher at Queen Mary University of London, noted that while Reform has gained ground, Labour would likely win comfortably once second-preference votes are redistributed. Current Mayor Sadiq Khan has not yet confirmed if he will seek a fourth term, with a decision expected next year.
