Refrigerator maintenance and odor management tips

Maintaining a refrigerator efficiently involves managing both odors and energy consumption. To address unpleasant smells, placing a dried bay leaf inside the appliance can act as a natural deodorizer. The leaf's essential oils, such as eucalyptol, release a fragrance that masks odors. It is recommended to leave the leaf in for approximately one hour to avoid permeating delicate foods like milk or butter with its scent.

To prevent energy waste, users should inspect door seals and condenser coils. A damaged or dirty gasket allows warm air to enter, forcing the unit to work harder. A simple test involves checking if a piece of paper can easily slip through the seal. Additionally, ensuring that air vents are not blocked by food items and keeping condenser coils free of dust can significantly improve cooling performance and reduce electricity usage.
