Refrigerator maintenance: Using paper to test door seals

A simple household method using a standard A4 sheet of paper can help homeowners detect if a refrigerator door seal is failing. A compromised rubber gasket allows warm air to enter the appliance, forcing the compressor to work harder and increasing electricity consumption, especially during hot weather.

To perform the test, place part of the paper between the gasket and the refrigerator frame, close the door, and attempt to pull the paper out. If the paper is held firmly, the seal is likely functional. If it slides out easily, the gasket may have lost its elasticity or no longer fits tightly against the frame, indicating a need for maintenance to prevent energy waste.
