Regency Alliance Insurance completes recapitalisation in Nigeria
Regency Alliance Insurance Plc has completed its recapitalisation programme, according to a regulatory notice. The company was included on a list of compliant insurers published by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
Management expects the strengthened balance sheet to increase the firm’s capacity to underwrite larger and more complex risks. The company intends to use its improved financial position to accelerate strategic initiatives, including technology adoption, innovation, and customer experience improvements. This move aligns with broader reforms in the Nigerian insurance industry aimed at increasing financial resilience and underwriting capacity.
In response to the industry-wide recapitalisation, the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has advised insurers to prioritize sustainable growth over rapid expansion. Dr. Benneth Eze, Head of Research and Development at CIS, urged firms to focus on underwriting discipline, effective claims management, and operational efficiency. He emphasized that companies should prioritize the quality and profitability of business rather than mere volume to ensure lasting value for shareholders.
