Regenerative grazing at Hi-Ute Ranch offers lawn care insights

Regenerative grazing practices used at Hi-Ute Ranch near Kimball Junction offer insights for residential lawn maintenance. Through a partnership with Utah Open Lands, cattle are used to manage pastures by providing controlled grazing followed by periods of rest to allow grass recovery.

To ensure healthy growth, ranchers wait until grasses have developed at least three new leaves before allowing cattle to graze again. This allows the plant to capture sufficient sunlight to support root development and soil nutrients. Homeowners can apply similar principles by allowing lawns to grow slightly taller and avoiding overly frequent mowing to promote healthier root systems and soil life.
