Regenerative medicine advances through bio-ink innovation and market growth

Advancements in regenerative medicine are driving significant scientific and economic growth. Research led by doctoral student Marcelo Garrido involves the development of a promising bio-ink for 3D bioprinting. This innovation combines living cells with decellularized rat spinal cord matrix to create a functional structure aimed at treating spinal cord injuries, providing a porous environment conducive to cell proliferation.

The global regenerative medicine market is projected to grow from US$ 48.17 billion in 2025 to an estimated US$ 360.84 billion by 2034, according to Fortune Business Insights. This expansion is fueled by cell therapies, tissue engineering, and personalized medicine.

However, experts emphasize the need for rigorous scientific standards. André Ferrão Vargas, president of the Brazilian Society of Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine (SOBRACEL), notes that while various technologies are in development, results must be evaluated based on solid clinical evidence to distinguish proven treatments from experimental promises.
