Regenicin develops lab-grown skin to treat severe burns
Regenicin, a biotechnology company based in Las Vegas, is developing a method to treat severe burns by expanding small skin samples in a laboratory setting. Operating out of the Roseman University Bioventures incubator, the company uses a process to culture a patient’s own skin cells, allowing a postage-stamp-sized sample to grow into a graft up to 100 times its original size within approximately 28 days.
This autologous skin substitute, which will be named Tiscela, aims to address the limitations of traditional skin grafting, which often requires harvesting large amounts of healthy skin from other parts of a patient's body. By using the patient's own cells, the process reduces the risk of rejection and minimizes the need for additional donor sites. Regenicin is currently preparing an FDA-regulated clinical program to advance the use of Tiscela for treating catastrophic burns.
