Regent Household Electronics destroyed by fire in Georgetown

A major fire destroyed Regent Household Electronics on Regent Street in Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon. The blaze, which broke out shortly before 2 PM, caused the western end of the building to collapse.

Firefighters utilized seven vehicles and local hydrants to contain the inferno, preventing the flames from spreading to adjacent properties. Deputy Fire Chief Dwayne Scotland confirmed that the fire was contained to the single building. The Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) assisted by increasing the water supply, while the Guyana Police Force managed crowd control.

All staff members were accounted for following the incident. This is the second time the business has been destroyed by fire, with the previous occurrence taking place in 2009. Mayor of Georgetown Alfred Mentore commended the fire service for their effectiveness in containing the blaze. An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to begin once the scene is secured.
