Claudio Lotito acquires Reggina 1914, ending Ballarino era

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has completed the purchase of Serie D club Reggina 1914. The transaction, announced in late June 2026, saw Lotito acquire the majority share for roughly €1.5 million, with a projected total investment of €4‑5 million to rebuild the squad and target promotion to Serie C. The deal was facilitated by Reggio Calabria mayor Francesco Cannizzaro, described by the club as the “trait d’union” between the parties. It marks the end of Nino Ballarino’s three‑year ownership of the amaranto club. Official statements and social‑media posts confirmed the hand‑over in Rome and highlighted the aim of “continuity and new growth”. Because Reggina currently competes in the amateur league, the FIGC’s multi‑ownership rule does not block the acquisition; however, Lotito would have to divest one of his clubs if Reggina reaches the professional Serie C, as required by the federation’s regulations.
