Claudio Lotito takes over Reggina, vows club revival

Claudio Lotito, president of Lazio, announced his acquisition of Serie D club Reggina during a press conference at the Oreste Granillo stadium in Reggio Calabria. He pledged to invest financially and use his experience from promoting Salernitana, describing the Serie D level as “solo un momento di partenza”. Lotito said he would build a “solida società” and emphasized loyalty, correctness and “lealtà” from supporters.

He also revisited the issue of multi‑ownership, calling the current regulation “una regola folle” that harms Italian football and asserting that the model “porta benefici sotto il profilo economico, territoriale e della crescita dei giovani”. In response to questions about a possible sale of Lazio, he answered that “le vie del Signore sono infinite”. The presentation was attended by mayor Francesco Cannizzaro, who presented Lotito with a symbolic scarf, and sparked mixed reactions among Lazio fans, some of whom expressed anger over the focus on Reggina.

Lotito’s plan includes appointing a new director of sport, selecting a coach, and eventually moving the club out of amateur status, while he continues to defend the legitimacy of holding two clubs under the European multi‑ownership model.
