Reggio Calabria celebrates inclusion with first Baskin game and Bergafest

In June, Reggio Calabria hosted the city’s first official Baskin match at the Pianeta Viola “Massimo Mazzetto”. The inclusive sport, governed by the Ente Italiano Sport Inclusivi (EISI), pits athletes with and without disabilities together on equal terms, assigning roles based on individual abilities.

On 25 July 2026, the 26th edition of Bergafest transformed the city into a hub for bergamot culture and social inclusion. Organized by the Association of Pastry Artisans of Reggio (APAR) and the International Bergamot Academy, the event featured olfactory workshops, musical interludes and a special pastry competition for “Special Pastry Chefs” assisted by tutors. Awards were presented to the Association of Parents of Children and Adults with Disabilities (A. GE. DI. ODV) for its long‑standing support of the disabled community, as well as to individuals in publishing and scientific research linked to the region’s bergamot heritage.
