Reggio Calabria joins European Club of Perfume Cities

Reggio Calabria has officially joined the European Club of Mayors of Perfume Cities, establishing an international partnership centered on the production and valorization of bergamot. The agreement was formalized by Mayor Francesco Cannizzaro in the presence of Jérôme Viaud, the mayor of Grasse, France, a city globally recognized as the perfume capital.

The collaboration aims to strengthen Reggio Calabria's role in the international fragrance industry by promoting natural essences, protecting local production, and fostering economic, institutional, and academic cooperation. The initiative seeks to create a bridge between the two cities, utilizing the Experimental Station for Essence Industries to support the sector.

Local leaders, including Chamber of Commerce President Ninni Tramontana and industry representative Gianfranco Capua, emphasized the potential for economic and tourism growth. Proposals include developing specialized tourist routes that highlight the history and production of bergamot to showcase the region's unique identity within a broader European context.
