Reggio Calabria labor inspectors suspend businesses for illegal employment

Labor inspectors in Reggio Calabria conducted a series of inspections between September 7 and 13, targeting the agriculture, construction, and public service sectors. The operations were part of the ‘Alto Impatto’ special surveillance program coordinated by the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria.

In the agricultural sector, inspectors found two non-EU workers without valid contracts. The business was suspended, and the employer faces a 7,800 euro fine for illegal labor, along with additional penalties for health and safety violations regarding medical surveillance and training. In the Locride area, a construction site was also suspended after two Italian workers were found working without contracts.

Further violations occurred in the Piana di Gioia Tauro region. An agricultural field was found to have one worker employed illegally, resulting in a 3,900 euro fine. Additionally, a bakery in the same area was suspended due to one of its four employees lacking a regular contract, incurring a 3,900 euro fine and requirements to regularize the worker and pay additional fees to reopen.
