Reggio Calabria celebrates Madonna della Consolazione feast
Reggio Calabria is observing the traditional feast of the Madonna della Consolazione, a major religious and cultural event that unites the city through a historic procession. The Sacred Effigy was carried from the Hermitage to the Cathedral, a symbolic transition marked by the presence of civil and military authorities, including the regional council.
This year’s celebrations are marked by a sense of collective mourning following a tragic motorcycle accident that claimed the life of 23-year-old Anthea Ranieri and seriously injured another young man, Giovanni. Despite the grief, local leaders emphasized the importance of the ritual in maintaining community identity and social cohesion. The regional council also hosted an exhibition and illuminated Palazzo Campanella in blue to honor the patron saint.
