Reggio Calabria: Suspect arrested after attempted fuel station theft

A man has been placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet following an attempted theft at a self-service fuel station in Reggio Calabria. The incident occurred on the night of October 13, 2026, along the Statale 106.

According to investigators, the suspect and an unidentified accomplice used a stolen white Fiat Iveco OM 40 van to attempt to steal cash from an Esso payment terminal. The suspects reportedly attached a heavy rope to the metal structure and attempted to pull it from the ground by reversing the vehicle.

The theft was interrupted when the owner of the facility, Claudio Domenico Greco, arrived at the scene, causing the suspects to flee. The attempt resulted in damage to the equipment. The suspect faces charges of attempted aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods.
