Reggio Children educators weigh participation of Jewish school teachers
A group of approximately 100 educators and teachers from Jewish schools is currently deciding whether to proceed with a scheduled training visit to Reggio Emilia, Italy, from October 11 to 16. The educators have requested additional time to evaluate whether the visit can take place under conditions that allow for the serenity required for educational exchange, specifically expressing concerns regarding the presence of security checkpoints or surveillance at entrances.
Reggio Children has clarified that the participating teachers are attending in a personal capacity rather than as official representatives of Israeli institutions or schools. The organization emphasized that it is not currently engaged in collaborations with Israeli institutions.
Furthermore, the Reggio Children network has signed a charter titled ‘For a democratic and participatory education.’ This document commits the network to repudiating war and keeping educational facilities free from any form of militarization. The organization stated that its historical collaborations with various international ministries and public institutions have always remained strictly focused on early childhood education and teacher training.
