Reggio Emilia Ausl offers free osteoporosis consultations
To mark World Osteoporosis Day, the Ausl Irccs di Reggio Emilia is organizing a day of free medical consultations on Tuesday, October 20. The initiative, held in collaboration with FEDIOS (Italian Federation of Osteoporosis and Skeletal Diseases), will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Arcispedale outpatient clinics (first floor, rooms 1003 and 1004).
Specialists from the Geriatrics, Endocrinology, and Rheumatology departments will be available to provide information on prevention and treatment, as well as conduct brief personal assessments. Participating professionals include geriatrician Giulia Fontanili, endocrinologists Michele Corradini Zini and Francesca Linari, and rheumatologist Lucia Dardani.
Osteoporosis is described as a silent disease that progressively weakens bones, increasing the risk of fractures from minimal trauma. It is a major cause of disability and loss of autonomy in the elderly, particularly affecting post-menopausal women and men over 65. Risk factors include age, family history, smoking, alcohol abuse, physical inactivity, and poor calcium intake.
