Reggio Emilia Mayor Marco Massari commits to probe neo‑fascist attacks of the 1970s‑80s

Mayor Marco Massari of Reggio Emilia responded to an open letter from the families of the late police inspector Rolando Balugani and the late professor Nanni Scolari. The relatives, joined by Federico Scolari, called for a thorough historical investigation into the role of neo‑fascist groups in the violent attacks that scarred Reggio Emilia and its province during the 1970s and 1980s.

Massari said the municipality will meet with the Istituto Storico del Territorio (Istoreco) and the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) to explore how the city can support the research initiative. He also confirmed his participation in the 46th‑anniversary commemoration of the Bologna railway‑station bombing, underscoring the local government’s willingness to address the families’ demand for clarity on past terror incidents and alleged involvement of figures such as Paolo Bellini.
