Reggio Emilia sports organizations implement social initiatives and regulations
In Reggio Emilia, the Centro Sportivo Italiano (CSI) has issued fines to two amateur seven-a-side football teams, The Mount Peli and Masone Suave City, for using the number 88 on player jerseys. The disciplinary action follows a 2023 protocol against antisemitism established by the Italian Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Sport, and the FIGC, which prohibits the number due to its use as a coded reference to Nazi slogans. Both clubs denied any intentional connection to Nazism, attributing the violation to a lack of awareness regarding the regulation.
Separately, the Mapei Stadium and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia have launched the third edition of ‘1-1 Parole al Centro. Contro la violenza sulle donne’. This initiative aims to promote gender equality and combat violence against women through public events, including a live podcast and a discussion titled ‘Essere se stesse: un atto di coraggio’. The project seeks to utilize the stadium as a space for social dialogue and community responsibility.
