Reggio Emilia unions call for joint action on energy price crisis

Union leaders Cristian Sesena (CGIL), Rosamaria Papaleo (CISL) and Alex Scardina (UIL) in Reggio Emilia urged local authorities, the regional government and the national government to adopt coordinated measures to ease the impact of soaring energy prices and inflation on households and businesses. They proposed a “common alert” that would include remote‑work options, incentives for public transport, directing a share of multi‑utility excess profits to municipalities, and a progressive reduction of municipal taxes. The unions also called for anti‑speculation actions, social safety nets for affected sectors and funds to combat energy poverty. “We believe the time has come for shared choices,” they said, adding that the initiatives could mitigate the cost‑of‑living squeeze even if they are not a complete solution.
