Regina-style pizza becomes a cultural symbol of Saskatchewan's capital

Regina-style pizza has become a cultural symbol of Saskatchewan’s capital city. The unique style features a thick, fluffy dough base topped with tomato sauce, vegetables, deli meats, and a heavy layer of cheese, typically served in square pieces.

The tradition dates back to 1970, when Greek immigrant brothers George, Gus, John, and Tony Kolitsas opened Houston Pizza on Hill Avenue. The style was created as a departure from the thinner crust pizzas popular at the time.

Local businesses, such as Tumblers Pizza, continue the tradition by producing hundreds of pies weekly for local delivery and provincial grocery stores. Tourism Regina has recently launched a campaign and merchandise to showcase this specific culinary staple.
