Regina: Two men charged after high-speed stolen vehicle chase

Two men face charges following a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle in Regina and Lumsden. On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, police identified a stolen vehicle driving dangerously near Victoria Avenue and Athol Street. Due to the vehicle reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h, ground officers declined to pursue for safety reasons, instead utilizing an Aerial Support Unit (ASU) to track the car.

The pursuit continued south of Regina toward Lumsden, where the driver reportedly drove dangerously through streets, nearly causing head-on collisions with other motorists. The vehicle eventually attempted to drive along railway tracks before losing control and crashing down a steep embankment.

Following the crash, two suspects fled on foot. A joint search by the Regina Police Service and the RCMP, aided by canine and aerial units, led to the apprehension of one suspect hiding in bushes. This individual allegedly assaulted a police service dog during the arrest. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Christopher Novak, was located in a nearby building and arrested. Novak faces multiple charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a conveyance, operating a conveyance while prohibited, and break and enter with intent.
