RegioJet to invest 1.5 billion CZK in fleet modernization

RegioJet owner Radim Jančura has announced a 1.5 billion CZK investment plan to modernize the company’s fleet of approximately 300 wagons. The move follows customer complaints regarding malfunctioning air conditioning and aging interiors, particularly in the lowest service class.

As part of the overhaul, the current ‘Lowcost’ class will be discontinued and rebranded as ‘Economy’ next year. The new standard will feature upgraded seating equipped with wireless chargers, USB ports, and 230V sockets. A primary technical goal is to increase air conditioning capacity by 50 percent across all vehicles by May 2027.

While the company currently relies on second-hand carriages from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Jančura indicated that the long-term strategy involves transitioning to new rolling stock, though this is not expected for at least five years. Additionally, RegioJet faces a potential delay in deploying new Polish-made Pesa units for the Prague-Brno route, which may necessitate the temporary use of older carriages.
