Region Dalarna proposes 1.1 billion SEK psychiatric care investment

The majority in Region Dalarna has proposed a major investment of approximately 1.1 billion SEK to overhaul psychiatric care in the region. The plan aims to reorganize inpatient care to meet future needs by establishing two primary nodes in Säter and Falun.

A key component of the proposal involves relocating the psychiatric emergency department from Säter to Falun. This move is intended to address inadequate facilities in Falun, where parts of the Tallbacken area will be demolished to make way for a new, modern building expected to be ready by 2033.

Following the relocation, the psychiatric services in Säter will be transformed to focus on addiction treatment and dual diagnosis. Officials believe Säter's existing expertise in these areas will support recruitment and maintain local employment opportunities.
