Region Gävleborg to dismantle primary care company

The new governing body of Region Gävleborg has announced plans to de-corporatize the region's primary care services. A coalition consisting of the Social Democrats, Left Party, Green Party, and Centre Party confirmed that they intend to review the current organizational structure to prioritize citizen needs over corporate requirements.

Jan Lahenkorva (S) stated that the current company model focuses on corporate needs rather than those of the public. The transition process is expected to begin following an evaluation in the first quarter of 2027, though no definitive timeline for the complete dissolution of the company has been established.

The decision follows concerns from medical staff regarding organizational fatigue and the speed at which the company was originally formed. While some argue that the company model offers increased flexibility and faster decision-making, the new leadership maintains that a shift back to public management is necessary to secure future primary care.
