Region Hannover Approves Joint Anti‑Discrimination Office with City of Hanover

The Regional Assembly of Hannover shortened its June 30, 2026 session after the tragic incidents in Stade, voting only on essential items and omitting speeches. In the brief session, members approved a cooperation agreement between the Region Hannover and the city of Hanover to operate a joint anti‑discrimination office. The new centre will serve as a central contact point for residents of the city and surrounding areas, offering confidential, independent advice, documenting cases, publicising discrimination, and conducting preventive work. Christian Hinrichs highlighted the agreement’s role in strengthening municipal anti‑discrimination efforts, stressing the need for an inter‑sectional approach and robust public outreach.

The office aims to empower individuals to understand and enforce their rights, with the goal of fostering a society where people can “be different without fear.”
