Region Nordjylland proposes new psychiatry model for Thisted

Due to a significant shortage of doctors in adult psychiatry, Region Nordjylland is proposing a new temporary model for psychiatric services in Thisted. Starting in 2027, the N8 facility, known as Psykiatriens Hus, will be assigned only one doctor.

This change follows a decision by the regions to terminate agreements with agencies providing long-term substitute doctors, which is expected to reduce the number of doctors in adult psychiatry in Region Nordjylland from approximately 45 to 30.

Under the proposed plan, while the number of doctors decreases, other professional staff and mobile teams will remain to maintain continuity for patients. The facility will also retain a significant number of beds and can be supported by services in Brønderslev and Aalborg as needed. The plan is intended to be temporary, with the goal of returning to the current staffing levels once additional doctors are hired.
