Region of Waterloo appoints Ishtiaque Tunio as Water Commissioner
The Region of Waterloo has appointed Ishtiaque Tunio as the new Commissioner of Water and Wastewater Services. Tunio is scheduled to begin his role on September 8.
Tunio will lead efforts to address and accelerate solutions for water capacity constraints within the Mannheim Service Area. This service area encompasses Kitchener, Waterloo, parts of Cambridge, Woolwich, and Wilmot.
A senior public-sector executive with over 20 years of experience, Tunio has previously worked with the City of Mississauga, the City of Ottawa, the Maryland Transportation Authority, Metrolinx, and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. His background includes involvement in major infrastructure projects such as the Gordie Howe International Bridge and Union Station’s Rail Corridor program.
