Region Sjælland expands support for vulnerable pregnant families
Region Sjælland is expanding the ‘God start på familielivet’ (Good start to family life) initiative to all maternity wards within the region. Supported by a grant from the non-profit association Østifterne, the program aims to provide uniform assistance to pregnant families in vulnerable situations.
The initiative includes screening for domestic violence and intense conflicts in close relationships, stress and conflict management, mindfulness programs, and enhanced cooperation between maternity wards, municipalities, and other support services.
To ensure regional consistency, the Family Outpatient Clinic at Hvidovre Hospital will serve as a regional competence center and support function for maternity wards in Region Sjælland and the Capital Region. Trine Birk Andersen, the regional council chair for Region Sjælland, emphasized the importance of the healthcare system detecting distress early to offer support before issues escalate.
