Region Stockholm faces potential broad coalition shift

Region Stockholm is facing a potential political shift as talks progress toward forming a broad, cross-bloc coalition. The proposed governing group would consist of the Social Democrats (S), Green Party (MP), Christian Democrats (KD), Center Party (C), and Liberals (L).

If successful, this coalition would command 80 of the 149 seats in the regional assembly. This move follows the rejection of a continued partnership with the Left Party (V), which had supported the previous administration.

The shift has drawn sharp criticism from the Moderate Party (M). Group leader Axel Conradi described the potential alliance as a ‘historical betrayal of the voters,’ arguing that KD and L are abandoning their previous promises to oppose the Social Democrats in favor of becoming their ‘support wheels.’
