Regional agricultural festivals celebrate French pastoral traditions

Regional agricultural and cultural events are highlighting local production and pastoral traditions in France. In Montredon, a seasonal market features local farmers and producers offering meat, vegetables, cheeses, honey, and various artisanal goods. The event includes a presentation by André Parenti, founder of the Coopérative des Bergers du Larzac, and a lecture by agronomist Caroline Dumas regarding the ‘Social Security of Food’ (Sécurité Sociale de l’Alimentation), a system aimed at ensuring food rights outside of traditional capitalism.

In the Béarn region, the village of Laruns is preparing for its 2026 festival, which celebrates the valley's cheese production. The event serves as a community gathering involving local shepherds, artisans, and musicians. While the fair features cheese competitions and showcases the work of local producers, it also functions as a cultural celebration of transhumance and pastoral life. For the 2026 edition, Roquefort cheese from the Aveyron region will be the featured guest.
