Regional authorities address security and rural crime in Argentina and Chile

In Chile, agricultural producers in the Limarí province of the Coquimbo region are demanding legislative changes to increase penalties for rural thefts. Following data from the Coquimbo Agricultural Theft Barometer, stakeholders including the Sociedad Agrícola del Norte A.G. and local law enforcement highlighted the difficulty of prosecuting crimes committed in uninhabited rural areas. Prosecutors emphasized the necessity of formal complaints and evidence to strengthen investigations into these thefts.
