Latin American authorities strengthen disaster preparedness and risk management

Various regional authorities across Latin America are implementing measures to enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response protocols.

In Argentina, the Chubut government is developing a contingency plan for the Lago Bagillt Natural Protected Area to manage natural disasters and evacuation procedures. In Chaco, officials are preparing for potential flooding and heavy rains linked to the El Niño phenomenon.

In Colombia, the National Police are coordinating with local agencies in Riohacha to protect ecosystems and wildlife from fire risks exacerbated by drought and El Niño. In Uruguay, DINAGUA is working on flood risk reduction and early warning systems in Río Branco and Melo.

In Chile, Senapred is training communities in Río Bueno to manage seismic emergencies, while in Osorno, medical students are assisting in CPR training for hospital staff. In Paraguay, the Ministry of Public Health is strengthening community-based surveillance in Misiones and Ñeembucú to detect sanitary threats and pandemics.
