Regional authorities implement new veterinary and animal welfare measures

In Slovenia, the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection has announced a public tender to establish a pilot system for permanent emergency veterinary readiness. Running from October 15 to January 31, the program aims to ensure continuous telephone accessibility and emergency assistance outside of regular working hours. The tender covers 16 groups across ten regional offices and six specific units, with a maximum monthly flat fee of 1,500 euros per group. Eligible applicants include verified veterinary clinics and hospitals holding valid concessions for public veterinary services.

In Serbia, the Niš City Council has authorized JKP Mediana to engage private firms through public procurement to manage abandoned dogs and cats. This measure addresses insufficient shelter capacity and aims to control the stray animal population. The initiative includes providing housing, food, and medical care for animals. The city has allocated approximately 129.8 million dinars for zoohygienic services this year, which is nearly double the previous year's budget, to support these efforts and reduce costs related to damages and legal fees.
