Regional authorities launch environmental recovery and flood prevention projects

In Chile, the Subsecretaría de Desarrollo Regional y Administrativo (Subdere) has allocated over $173 million pesos to recover Parque Isabel Riquelme in Lautaro. The funds are designated for clearing, collecting, and removing approximately 200 trees that fell during recent intense storms. Local authorities, including Mayor Ricardo Jaramillo, stated the resources will allow for the reforestation and restoration of the park following the climate-related damage.

In Mexico, the government of Baja California is coordinating with the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) to expand cleaning efforts in the Tijuana River canalization. This preventive measure aims to mitigate risks from potential heavy rains associated with the El Niño phenomenon. The project involves removing approximately 600,000 cubic meters of silt, debris, and vegetation. Additionally, authorities are working to relocate 64 families currently living within the riverbed to safer areas.
