Regional Bus Services Expanded in Slovakia and Czech Republic

From 1 August, regional bus services in Slovakia’s Košice and Prešov regions will operate on a new regular‑timetable system covering 75 lines. The plan, developed with IDS Východ, introduces 30‑minute and 60‑minute intervals on main routes, improves connections with trains and between bus lines, and adds stronger links to the Vyšný Nemecký border crossing. It is expected to raise passenger numbers on core routes by about nine percent, adding roughly 1 600 daily riders and generating additional revenue to offset higher operating costs.

A separate overhaul takes effect on 2 August 2026 at the border of the Czech Central Bohemian and Vysočina regions. Coordinated by the Integrated Transport of Central Bohemia (IDSK) and Public Transport of Vysočina (VDV), the reform changes 40 bus lines, introduces the new express route 401 linking Prague with Pelhřimov, and redesigns several regional lines to provide hourly or half‑hourly services during peak times. The changes aim to shorten travel times, improve connections to the national rail network, and better serve commuters in the area.
