Regional challenges in Peru mining and Bolivia university funding

In Peru, calls are mounting for the government and the Ministry of Energy and Mines to combat illegal mining, which is estimated to involve approximately US$ 12 billion. Critics argue that the Reinfo (Integral Mining Formalization Registry), originally intended as a temporary measure, has become a permanent fixture through legislative extensions, effectively exempting illegal miners from criminal responsibility and threatening national parks, ecological systems, and social peace across seven regions.

In Bolivia, the national university system is seeking to participate in the development of laws and regulations regarding the 50/50 economic distribution model. David Soraide, rector of the Universidad Autónoma Tomás Frías (UATF), stated that universities should be included in these working groups because they also receive resources from tax co-participation. The university system aims to secure funding to strengthen academic training, research, and faculty qualification.
